Evil Geniuses picked up their first points in ESL Pro League Season 11's North American division after taking down Swole Patrol in a two-map series.
The current world No.8 bounced back from last week's defeat to 100 Thieves and secured a much-needed victory against Swole Patrol, who were riding the wave after upsetting Liquid in their previous match. Austin "Cooper" Abadir's troops were at certain moments the better team, but the individual brilliance of Evil Geniuses' players made the difference in the end.
The opening map of the series, Vertigo, began with a lively start from Evil Geniuses, who jumped out to a 4-0 lead on the T side. After getting their economy back on track, Swole Patrol tightened up and gradually took the upper hand, but the half ended with just one round separating the two sides as the ex-NRG squad hit back before the break with key frags from Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov, who was averaging an impressive 113 damage per round.
The game continued its back-and-forth trend in the second half as neither team could get much distance from the other. With the outcome of the map looking unpredictable, Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte and CeRq took Evil Geniuses through the finish line with key individual plays in the final stages of this closely-contested affair.
The Bulgarian carried his impressive form into the second map, Inferno, and clutched a 1v2 situation in the pistol round, with Evil Geniuses following that up with the next two rounds. A quad-kill from Jordan "Zellsis" Montemurro in the first full gun round marked the beginning of Swole Patrol's recovery as the org-less team ended the half with a 9-6 lead after making sure that their opponents' mistakes didn't go unpunished.
After the break, it was Brehze's time to shine again as the No.8 player of 2019 pulled off a massive 1v3 clutch with a p2000. It is the sort of round that breaks a team's spirit, and Swole Patrol never truly recovered from it. Tarik "tarik" Celik led the EG defense in the remainder of the half with a 2.54 CT rating and a 161 ADR as the North American giants cruised to a comfortable victory on their map pick.
